Keep Praying about the “Small” Things
A brief story on persistent prayer
About a month or two ago, my wife came home after a long day, got in bed, and noticed her wedding ring was in the bed. She usually takes it off on the tv stand. But then she couldn’t find her other ring. She looked everywhere to no avail.
Both of us kept looking for a few days, realizing that, even though it had to have come off in our house, it was gone. We weren’t going to find it. And yet, I continued to tell Shale to keep praying, as did I. There are no “small” prayers to the Lord. He cares.
So any chance I thought about the ring, I prayed. I felt horrible because I knew how much Shale loved that ring, and it made no sense that we weren’t finding it.
What seemed like a few weeks had passed, and it was time for my lunch during the week. I came home, ate, then spontaneously decided to go into our room to exercise. As I was moving the dumbbells out from under our bed, something hard hit my hand.
THE RING.
I was overjoyed, and immediately called Shale to tell her the good news. What if I hadn’t decided to exercise? What if I was lazy and waited months to lift those dumbbells again?
I couldn’t help but praise the Lord. He was faithful to answer our prayers—and there were many of them!
The lesson, friend, is to keep praying, continue asking. God honors persistent prayer. It doesn’t mean he’s always going to eventually grant it. That’s not the point. The point is for us to remain steadfast, to remember his promises, to know that he is God even when we’ve lost a ring. He tells us to keep asking, so we will—even if it never happens.
We become more like Jesus in our persistent prayers because they reveal a deeper, more abiding trust in the character and nature of God.
So, friend, keep praying. Don’t lose heart. Whatever it is you’re praying for—small, big, or anything in between—don’t ever stop. God is there, and cares for you. He cares about your requests, your petitions, your pleas. Remember that he uses these to mold you more into the image of his Son. Even when he says “no.”
And sometimes, in the processing of sanctifying you, he lets you move a dumbbell and your prayer is answered.
Happy Monday, friends. Hope you all have a wonderful week. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Soli Deo Gloria.

That’s wonderful! I love how the Lord allows us the little mercies to show us how much He cares!
So vitally important to growing in the faith and graduating from spiritual milk to solid food. Similarly, I am posting 40 days of gratitude. Here's day 28:https://rogergroves.substack.com/p/gratitude-day-28?r=5o921z
